TAGBILARAN CITY. – Local businessman yesterday noted that there are less tourists arriving here for the Sandugo festivities this month while the Philippine National Police (PNP) noted that more police characters are in the province in time for the annual celebration.
A resort owner based in Panglao town told Bohol News Today that beach operators have noted that that there less arrival of tourists especially those who checked in at local hotels and resorts.
The sources, who disclosed to be identified, said that the down trend of the tourist arrivals started last year although he emphasized that after the 2013 earthquake, the tourist industry here already bounced back but not to its previous records in the previous years.
This decline is even noticeable with the decrease of flights in the Tagbilaran-Manila routes by airline companies. Perhaps, the one plane policy implemented by the Civil Aeronautics Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has contributed to the decision of the airline companies to decrease its daily flights here.
This has been aggravated by the delayed completion of the emergency ramp at the city airport. The contractor has admitted that the project may not even be completed in time.
Meanwhile, Camp Dagohoy authorities yesterday warned that intelligence operatives noted the presence of police characters from other provinces in the city in time for the Sandugo celebration here.
Intelligence sources earlier confirmed to this paper that most of the police characters are pickpockets and thieves already identified in other provinces.
Camp Dagohoy authorities have warned the public to be extra-careful especially if they attend the activities of the Sandugo celebration just like the street dancing activity here today.
Reports said that the PNP has already deployed augmentation troops in the city today to maximize its police visibility in every nook and corner of Tagbilaran as the street dancing ceremonies unfolds here.
An intelligence officer said that these police characters have been arrested for offenses in other provinces for theft and robberies. The police are expecting to make arrests this week as the Sandugo festivities comes to its close at the end of this month. (with reports from Freda C. Pondoc)
